Join us at KK Outlet on 23 July 2015 6-9pm when Daniel Stier + YES Editions + Twenty Twenty present Ways of Knowing. A curious outsiders view into the world of science, incomprehensible for most, but always strangely fascinating.
The book consists of two parts. Firstly there is a series of experimental setups taken in research laboratories across Europe and the US. The second part of the book are still lifes taken in Daniel Stier’s studio. Some of which are real experiments demonstrating scientific rules, others complete fantasy, only reminiscent of evidential, scientific photography. The combination of the existing research labs and the imagined experiments draws parallels between the work of scientists and artists.
Both search deeply, and often wanderingly, for the big questions. In both domains you find obsessive beliefs of invention and creation that have led to the highest forms of specialisation. The photos in this book become metaphors for a process of an open-ended inquiry, a feedback loop of thinking and doing, and ultimately the need to find order in a all too complex reality.
The publication features two essays written by Professor Pedro Ferreira, University Lecturer in Astrophysics at University of Oxford and Daniel Jewsbury, writer, artist and lecturer at the National College of Art & Design, Dublin.
Ways of Knowing will be available to buy on the night + we have free beers for all perusers and purchasers – until we run out!
